I'm Brittany. I live in New York City. I love Jesus, coffee and music. Oh, and the color pink, too.

You make beautiful things…

Gungor - “Beautiful Things”

"Soar back through all your own experiences. Think of how the Lord has led you in the wilderness and has fed and clothed you every day. How God has borne with your ill manners, and put up with all your murmurings and all your longings after the ‘sensual pleasures of Egypt!’ Think of how the Lord’s grace has been sufficient for you in all your troubles."

- Charles Spurgeon

"It is always the Holy Spirit’s work to turn our eyes away from self to Jesus; but Satan’s work is just the opposite of this, for he is constantly trying to make us pay attention to ourselves instead of to Christ. He insinuates, ‘Your sins are too great for pardon; you have no faith; you do not repent enough; you will never be able to continue to the end; you do not have the joy of His children; you have such a weak hold of Jesus.’ All these are thoughts about self, and we will never find comfort or assurance by looking within. But the Holy Spirit turns our eyes entirely away from self. He tells us that we are nothing, but that Christ is all in all."

Go ahead.  Pursue your dreams, crave success and money.  Work your way to the top of your company.  Win the attention of others.  Be rich and famous.  Be selfish.

And I can promise you this: you’ll still feel empty.  You’ll still want more.  You’ll wonder why you don’t feel content.  You’ll wonder why you’re still not happy.

But here’s a greater promise: Jesus fulfills.  He’ll never leave you wanting.  You’ll be content in Him.  He’ll bring you joy and peace that passes understanding.

I saw a quote from John Piper during Passion 2010 that really resounded with me:

“You were not created to BE somebody, you were created to KNOW somebody.”

God promises that He will be found by us when we seek Him with our whole heart (Jeremiah 29:13).  So seek Him, find Him, know Him.  There will be no greater joy than this.

And then go pursue His dreams for you.  Serve Him.  Glorify Him.  Love Him.

Text

Last night I visited Apostles NYC where my dear friend Kat attends church.  It was a blessing to be there.  We sang a song written by their former worship leader (I believe his name is Tom LoSchiavo).. it was a beautiful worship song and especially convicting.  It reminded me that as a believer I should seek to be a light and should not be like every other impatient, short-tempered New Yorker.  Especially during my morning and evening commutes, I tend to put on my tough New Yorker face.  I’m called to love, to be different, to glorify Christ.  Lord, help me to love as you love.

Here’s a portion of the lyrics:

“May we be stable, may we be steadfast
Not shift from the gospel we’ve heard
May we be in Him, rooted within Him
and flee from desires of this world
Let’s do what we’re called to do
We’re chosen to live the truth
As we walk the city, we will love
As we walk the city, we’ll speak love”

"The Cross is not simply a lovely example of sacrificial love. Throwing your life away needlessly is not admirable — it is wrong. Jesus’ death was only a good example if it was more than an example, if it was something absolutely necessary to rescue us. And it was. Why did Jesus have to die in order to forgive us? There was a debt to be paid — God himself paid it. There was a penalty to be born — God himself bore it. Forgiveness is always a form of costly suffering."
