Go ahead. Pursue your dreams, crave success and money. Work your way to the top of your company. Win the attention of others. Be rich and famous. Be selfish.

And I can promise you this: you’ll still feel empty. You’ll still want more. You’ll wonder why you don’t feel content. You’ll wonder why you’re still not happy.

But here’s a greater promise: Jesus fulfills. He’ll never leave you wanting. You’ll be content in Him. He’ll bring you joy and peace that passes understanding.

I saw a quote from John Piper during Passion 2010 that really resounded with me:

“You were not created to BE somebody, you were created to KNOW somebody.”

God promises that He will be found by us when we seek Him with our whole heart (Jeremiah 29:13). So seek Him, find Him, know Him. There will be no greater joy than this.

And then go pursue His dreams for you. Serve Him. Glorify Him. Love Him.

Last night I visited Apostles NYC where my dear friend Kat attends church. It was a blessing to be there. We sang a song written by their former worship leader (I believe his name is Tom LoSchiavo).. it was a beautiful worship song and especially convicting. It reminded me that as a believer I should seek to be a light and should not be like every other impatient, short-tempered New Yorker. Especially during my morning and evening commutes, I tend to put on my tough New Yorker face. I’m called to love, to be different, to glorify Christ. Lord, help me to love as you love.

Here’s a portion of the lyrics:

Last night we kicked off our study in the Book of Revelation and the room was packed out! God is so good and I’m so encouraged to see Him moving. I’m looking forward to what He’s going to do in this study, in the church plant, and in this city as a whole. Join us next Tuesday at 7:30 (info at http://thestudyofrevelation.com)

People are hungry for more. They’re hungry for Jesus. They may not recognize it as such, but He’s the only one who will satisfy us. This city is full of temptation and quick fixes. It bombards us with the messages of the world and promises fulfillment, but those things will only leave us empty. We need Jesus. New York City needs Jesus. This world needs Jesus.

LORD, open our eyes, break down the walls, show us Your truth, and fill us with Your love!
